TEHRAN (defapress) - The Sahand Destroyer had an accident and overturned at the dock of the 1st naval base in Bandar Abbas, and parts of the Sahand have gone under water.
According to the 1st naval base of Bandar Abbas's public relations report of the Sahand destroyer, this ship is being repaired at the wharf, has lost its balance due to water infiltration into the tanks.
Fortunately, due to the limited depth of the beach, the return of the ship to the equilibrium state is being done quickly.
Those injured in the accident were sent to the hospital for treatment.
Sahand is in the Mowj-class frigate. This is a class of domestically produced Iranian light frigates. It has been equipped with a locally manufactured point-defense weapon system dubbed "Kamand." The Kamand close-in weapon system can destroy any target approaching the destroyer from a distance/altitude of 2–4 kilometers (1.2–2.5 mi) by firing between 4,000 and 7,000 rounds per minute. Sahand is armed with cruise anti-ship missiles and has a helicopter deck and electronic warfare systems.
Sahand was capable of sailing on turbulent waters and distant oceans for 150 days while accompanied by a support vessel.
This destroyer had a 95 m (311 ft 8 in) length and was equipped with 4 diesel engines. its max speed is 30 knots (56 km/h; 35 mph).
Sahand was unveiled to the public in late November 2012 and entered service on 1 December 2018.
