TEHRAN (Defapress) - Melbourne Mayor Nicholas Rees has unveiled the idea of changing the division of the seasons and adding 2 new seasons.
The proposal is based on the traditional Australian Wurundjeri calendar and aims to better adapt to climate change and Melbourne's weather patterns.
The Mayor of Melbourne said about the results of the Melbourne 2050 meeting: "In the Australian Wurundjeri calendar, there are 6 seasons, but we have imposed 4 seasons on Melbourne by imitating Europe; while this division does not match the weather patterns of this city."
Praising the idea of redefining the seasons, he asked Melburnians to think about its benefits before opposing the proposal.
“Using Indigenous knowledge to help us adapt to climate change is a game changer,” said Nicholas Rees.
The City of Melbourne has long been working to integrate Indigenous knowledge into urban and environmental planning.
If the new zoning goes ahead, Melbourne will become Australia’s first six-season city.
