10 Killed, 60 Injured in Sydney Jewish Festival Shooting

TEHRAN (Defapress) - 10 people were killed, and 60 others were seriously injured in a shooting at a Hanukkah celebration on Australia's Bondi Beach.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued a statement saying: "This incident is shocking and deeply concerning."

He added: "Police and rescue forces are at the scene and are trying to rescue the injured. I spoke with the Australian Federal Police Commissioner and the Premier of New South Wales a few minutes ago. More information will be provided soon."

The official said: "I ask people present around the scene to follow police instructions and announcements."

Images released from the scene of the incident apparently show two gunmen opening fire from a bridge.

Australian media reported the arrest of two suspects in the shooting. Yedioth Aharonot quoted a Zionist aid group called "ZAKA" as saying that the shooting on Bondi Beach was being investigated as a terrorist act.

Hanukkah is a Jewish religious festival, also known as the Festival of Lights. The festival usually lasts for eight days and is celebrated in November or December. Hanukkah commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucid Empire in the second century BC. In Western countries with large Jewish populations, Hanukkah is also usually celebrated in public spaces such as parks, squares, and beaches.
