European Parliament Official Calls for Sending Troops to Ukraine

TEHRAN (Defapress) - In an interview with the German Funke media group, the leader of the largest faction in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, said that Berlin should send its military forces to Ukraine as part of a possible peace agreement.

He added that Brussels cannot rely solely on Washington to ensure peace between Moscow and Kyiv.

The European official said that after a ceasefire or peace agreement, the European flag should be raised along the contact lines.

Weber also called on the European Union to act independently of the United States on security issues.

The leader of the largest faction in the European Parliament claimed that he did not see the Russian leadership on the path to peace and called on Ukraine's European supporters to show strength and determination.

Russia has repeatedly opposed the idea of ​​the presence of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) forces on Ukrainian territory and has considered NATO's expansion eastward one of the main roots of the conflict.
