One Million Mines Discovered in Karabakh
TEHRAN (Defapress) - Samir Poladov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency, announced on Friday, June 2, at the event “Post-Conflict Reconstruction: The Vital Role of Humanitarian Demining Operations” held at the 13th World Cities Forum in Baku, that initial assessments of Karabakh had identified over one million mines.

Puladov provided shocking details of the human toll over the years. According to Puladov, the number of mine victims in the region from 1991 to November 10, 2020, was 530, and the number of cluster munition victims and injured was 131. Also, during the period from November 10, 2020, to May 22, 2025, the number of mine victims was 73.
According to statistics, the total number of mine casualties and injuries from 1991 to 2025 has exceeded 3,500 people, with children and young people accounting for 302 of the total victims, and women accounting for 38 of the total victims.
Pointing to the catastrophic dimensions of these statistics, Poladov stressed the need for international cooperation to clean up contaminated areas and assist victims.
