Russia Says Ceasefire Begins in Syria's Homs Province after Safe Zone Agreed

TEHRAN (defapress)- Moscow said Syrian Army and militant groups will begin adhering to a ceasefire Thursday in Northern parts of Homs province after Russia struck a deal with the opposition on implementing a safe zone.

Russia Says Ceasefire Begins in Syria's Homs Province after Safe Zone Agreed

"From 1200 local time (0900 GMT), units of the opposition and government forces will completely stop firing," defense ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov, Daily Sabah reported.
Konashenkov added that the ceasefire involved "all types of weapons."
During the fifth round of negotiations in Astana held in July, the borders of de-escalation zones were agreed upon in Homs and in the area of East Ghouta.
The new ceasefire comes as several truces have already gone into effect in other areas of the four zones.
