Speaking to reporters ahead of the fifth trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkey in Baku, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the country will use the capacity of UN Security Council to pursue the unfounded allegations made by US about the origin of a missile fired at Saudi Arabia from Yemen, adding “we voiced our protest at yesterday’s UN session, and will continue our probing into the matter in the next UN sessions, as well.”
Calling the US move “provocative”, “highly dangerous” and “purposeful”, Zarif said that “Washington is trying to cover up for their support to the bombing of innocent Yemeni people by raising such allegations against Iran.”
He went on to add, “they are also trying to cover up for their dangerous measures in the region, such as their decision on relocation of US embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds, which was condemned by the international community.”
On Tuesday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned Swiss envoy to Tehran to hand over a note containing Iran’s protest against the “provocative, irresponsible, and unfounded” remarks made by US Ambassador to UN Nikki Haley on Dec. 14 that Iran had supplied weapons, including ballistic missiles, to Yemenis, which would have been used against the coalition led by Saudi Arabia.
During the meeting with the Swiss envoy, Iran also noted the direct involvement of the US government in the mass killing of innocent Yemeni people by selling billions of deadly weapons, including cluster bombs, to Saudi Arabia, adding that Washington has violated the UN Security Council resolutions on Yemen.
