Spain to Send FM to Tehran for Bilateral Talks

TEHRAN (defapress)- Spanish Foreign Minister Alfonso Dastis is due to visit Tehran later this month to discuss bilateral relations and the latest regional developments with Iranian officials.

Spain to Send FM to Tehran for Bilateral TalksAccording to the Spanish top diplomat’s website, the trip was initially slated to take place in October, but postponed due to the country's domestic problem cause by independence-seeking bid of Catalonia.

The Spanish foreign minister’s visit to Iran is of high significance from economic point of view since during his stay in the Tehran, he will try to remove problems in the two countries’ economic relations.

A senior Spanish trade official underlined in December that Madrid will guarantee all investments by that country's investors in Iran.

"The Spanish government has announced that it will cover export and investment in Iran under the insurance guarantee, regardless of any restrictions, in order to protect the Spanish companies to participate in the Iranian market and investing in various infrastructure sectors; therefore, the Spanish investors will not be concerned about this," Spanish Secretary of State for Trade María Luisa Poncela said in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Industry, Mine and Trade Minister Mojtaba Khosrotaj in Madrid.

Khosrotaj, also head of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), was on an official visit to Spain at the head of a 60-member trade delegation.

The first Iran-Spain Joint Economic Commission was held in Madrid in December at the venue of Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness.
