Iranian Speaker Lauds Positive Results of Tehran-Moscow Regional Cooperation

"Iran and Russia have had good cooperation, specially on a political solution in Syria and the regional unrests," Larijani said in a meeting with Chairman of Russia's State Duma (lower house) Foreign Affairs Committee Leonid Slutsky in Tehran on Wednesday.

He underscored the need for increased cooperation between the two countries to make more progress.

Larijani, meantime, said that activities made by Iran and Russia in the region should not be confined to Syria and the regional issues, adding, "We are pleased that you are interested in cooperation with Iran in other fields too."

Slutsky, for his part, stressed the necessity for paying attention to all capacities to strengthen mutual cooperation, and said, "We are interested in providing the necessary infrastructures (grounds) to materialize our common future (goals)."

In relevant remarks on Monday, Russian Ambassador to Tehran Levan Jagarian voiced his country's readiness to expand mutual cooperation with Iran.

"Moscow wants to improve partnership with Iran to avoid the return of terrorists to Syria and the region," Jagarian said.

He described Iran as Russia's strategic partner, and said, "Moscow is seeking long-term cooperation with Iran."

Jagarian said that the US sanctions imposed on Moscow have no effect on cooperation between Iran and Russia that includes cooperation in military and technology fields.
