Tehran (Defapress) – At the end of his visit to Iraq, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami thanked the Iraqi side for their warm hospitality and said, “There are so strong cultural, religious, and historical connections between the two countries which pave the way for further cooperation and interaction”.
“The relations between Iran and Iraq in various areas such as economy, politics, culture and defense are so important and strong that won’t be affected by US troublesome interference,” he added.
Referring to the meetings with Iraqi Interior, Defense and Communication ministers as well as the country’s National Security Advisor, General Hatami said, “During the meetings we stressed on expanding bilateral cooperation and bolstering military, defense and security ties”.
He added the prospect of relations between Iran and Iraq in the defense field is bright and the Islamic Republic of Iran feels duty-bound to take part in Iraq’s reconstruction.
Touching on the first Joint High Commission for Defense Cooperation between Iran and Iraq, Iran’s Defense Minister said the meeting managed to achieve its goals.
He expressed Iran’s preparedness to stand by Iraqis under any condition and added following the defeat of ISIS in Iraq, reconstruction of the country has turned into one of the main priorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“We support Iraq’s territorial integrity for further progress of the country,” General Hatami concluded.
