Meeting in Tehran on Sunday, senior adviser to the Iranian parliament speaker for international affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian and China's Ambassador to Iran Pang Sen explored avenues for the settlement of the crisis in Yemen.
Reiterating Iran’s call for the political resolution of conflicts in Yemen, Amir Abdollahian expressed hope that China, which holds the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council, would find an appropriate way to end the war on Yemen.
“The humanitarian situation of Yemeni people has been very dire in the past two weeks,” the Iranian official deplored, calling for an immediate solution to help the war-hit people.
For his part, the Chinese envoy said Beijing is looking for a way to settle the conflicts in Yemen with the help of UN Security Council members, hoping that Yemeni people would receive foodstuff and medical aid.
Amir Abdollahian and Pang Sen also discussed Iran-China relations in the parliamentary diplomacy sphere.
Yemen is in the grip of a humanitarian disaster with millions facing starvation and disease after years of war on the country.
The Saudi-led war in Yemen started in March 2015 as an attempt to crush the Houthi Ansarollah movement in the region and reinstall former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. The conflict has created a dire humanitarian situation in the country.
