Iraq Needs Iranian Investment“Today, Iraq needs investments by Iranian companies and the Iraqi people are keen on good economic ties with Iran,” Hamoudi told Tasnim, stressing that close relations would boost both countries’ economic power.

Baghdad and Tehran need to expand economic ties in various fields such as energy and electricity, he added.

Hamoudi then pointed to the Zionist regime of Israel’s anger at close relations among Muslims nations, including Iraq and Iran, which he said has now turned into a major and powerful country in the region.

“Iran and Iraq enjoy very good relations today, and those who have been trying to damage these ties for years..., have failed to harm these ties,” he said, adding that the new Iraqi government is expected to establish much better ties with Iran than its predecessor.

The US deems Iran-Iraq ties harmful for Israel’s security, and that is why Washington is making a futile attempt to undermine the deep-rooted bonds between Iran and Iraq, the cleric stated.

Hamoudi went on to say that despite the hostile attempts to spoil Iraqi Sunni Muslims’ view of Iran, the Iraqi Sunnis are fond of Iran, as international conferences in Iran attract more Iraqi Sunni Muslims than Shiites.

In November, President of Iraq Barham Salih paid a visit to Iran with a ranking delegation for a series of political and economic talks.

In one of his meetings in Tehran, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani said the relations between the two neighbors are so deep-rooted that foreign plots to undermine such friendly bonds would get nowhere.
