Iran, Georgia Discus Closer Ties

TEHRAN (defapress) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili held talks on a host of issues, including the latest efforts to boost bilateral relations between the two countries.

Iran, Georgia Discus Closer TiesDuring the meeting, held in Tehran on Sunday evening, Zarif and Khvtisiashvili exchanged views about ways to promote mutual cooperation in various economic and political areas.

The Georgian diplomat is in the Iranian capital to attend the third round of political consultations between Tehran and Tbilisi.

In recent years, Iran and Georgia have ramped up efforts to cement their bilateral relations in all spheres.

Back in May, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a message congratulated Georgia on its Independence Day, voicing Tehran’s willingness to strengthen bonds with the Caucasus nation in all arenas.

He also expressed hope that Tehran and Tbilisi would tap into their historical and cultural commonalities and take advantage of their ample economic, political and cultural capacities to boost relations during President Salome Zourabichvili’s term.
