The withdrawal of American troops will begin this year
TEHRAN (Defapress) - Iraqi Defense Minister, Thabit al-Abbasi, emphasized that the first phase of the withdrawal of American troops from this country will begin this year (2024) and will continue until 2025.
Al-Abasi stated that the American and Iraqi committees agreed on the withdrawal with the remaining partnership and security cooperation between the two sides.
He added that Iraq and the United States agreed on the end of the mission of the "international coalition" (under the command of the United States) in two stages.
The Iraqi Defense Minister pointed out that the second phase of US withdrawal will be finished in 2026.
Al-Abasi clarified that the American defense minister made a proposal that two years was not enough for the withdrawal of American troops, but Iraq did not accept it.
