Israeli Opposition Moves to Topple Netanyahu's Cabinet

TEHRAN (Defapress) - Opposition leader Yair Lapid held a meeting with Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the "Israel Our Home" party, General Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the "Yashar" party, and Yair Golan, leader of the "Democrats" party. It was agreed that the party leaders' meeting would be permanent.

According to a post published by Lapid on his X account, the next opposition meeting will be held after Yom Kippur, and former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and former Defense Minister and Blue and White leader Benny Gantz will join it later.

The move by Israel’s opposition party leadership comes as Netanyahu insists on escalating the Gaza war and refuses to prioritize the return of prisoners as a political priority.

Lapid said the opposition had decided to “form a committee to outline the general details of the future cabinet, which will set guidelines for military service and Israel’s identity as a Jewish, democratic and Zionist state.”

Lapid pointed to a poll conducted by an Israeli channel on the performance of Netanyahu’s cabinet, stating: “70 percent of Israelis believe that the cabinet’s economic performance is weak.”

“It doesn’t have to be like that,” Lapid added. “We can have a government that strengthens the middle class and can be trusted to deal with the high cost of living.”
