Netanyahu Took a Long Route to the US to Escape the Risk of Arrest

TEHRAN (Defapress) - The Israeli newspaper, Yedioth Ahronoth, reported today (Sunday) that Benjamin Netanyahu began his trip to the US via a longer air route than usual.

According to the media, the reason for choosing this route is the concern that Netanyahu's plane would pass over the skies of countries that might execute the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court if he arrived.

According to the report, the security planners for Netanyahu's trip have tried to completely bypass the airspace of countries that are members of the International Criminal Court or have stricter positions on the execution of the rulings of this institution.

The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials on charges of war crimes, citing Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip; a warrant that is binding under international law on states party to the Rome Statute.

The United States, which is not a member of the ICC, is one of the few destinations Netanyahu can travel to without fear of formal arrest.
