In an interview with defapress, Head of the IRGC Public Relations Department General Ramezan Sharif emphasized that the IRGC forces have not launched any independent ground operation inside Syria, dismissing media speculations about such combat operations.
His comments came after Al Mayadeen TV claimed that the IRGC has launched an extensive military operation in Hamimah region, northwest of the Syrian city of Homs, since a couple of days ago in revenge for the martyrdom of Mohsen Hojaji, a member of the Iranian advisory support team in Syria who was taken captive by the Daesh (ISIL) Takfiri group near the Iraqi border last week and beheaded two days later.
Elsewhere in his comments, General Sharif said the IRGC would keep providing advisory supports for the Syrian army and popular forces until the eradication of Takfiri terrorism in the Arab country.
He also underscored that fierce revenge against Daesh and Takfiris for the martyrdom of Hojaji and others is on the agenda of the IRGC, saying plans for it "will be put into practice at an appropriate time.”
In a message following the martyrdom of Hojaji, Commander of the IRGC Quds Force Major General Qassem Soleimani said Iran will exact a terrible revenge against Daesh.
