The US administration’s “unwise” move to declare Quds capital of Israel was an insult to the Muslim public opinion, and drew widespread protests not only from Muslims but also from people around the world, Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said on Wednesday.
“That measure will cause the destruction of such a criminal regime (Israel),” said the top cleric, who is also the secretary of the Guardian Council (GC).
On December 6, US President Donald Trump said his administration would begin a years-long process of moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to Quds.
The decision has drawn widespread international condemnation and has sparked protests in the Palestinian territories.
In comments on Monday, Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said Trump’s decision is going to accelerate the demise of the Zionist regime of Israel.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has also described the US controversial move as a sign of “weakness and incompetence”, saying, “The Islamic world will definitely stand against this plot and the Zionists will receive a major blow.”
