TEHRAN (Defapress) - The Abu Mahdi cruise missile was developed and built under the "Meshkat" project. The Meshkat project is the name of a project in which the Russian KH-55 cruise missile is reverse engineered, and based on it, first, the Ya Ali cruise missile (AS) with a range of 700 km, then the Somar cruise missiles with a range of 700 km, Hoveyzeh with a range of more than 1300 km, and finally, the Abu Mahdi anti-ship cruise version with a range of more than 1000 km was made.

The Abu Mahdi cruise missile is the first Iranian naval cruise missile with a range of 1,000 km, which can be used against sea and land targets. Therefore, this missile is included among the strategic missiles. This cruise missile with a 410 kg HE warhead and Toloue turbojet engine can fly at an altitude of less than 50 meters. The circular probable error of this missile is 3 meters.

It is worth noting that few countries can build such a missile in this range domestically and more ranges, and other countries have to pay exorbitant costs to acquire this type of strategic missile. Russian Caliber, American Tomahawk, and French MdCN missiles fall into this category.

The Commander of the Army Navy announced that the destroyers of this force had been equipped with Abu Mahdi cruise missiles. In this way, this cruise missile can be fired if a threat is detected. Two shots from this cruise can sink an aircraft carrier and one Abu Mahdi cruise missile is capable of sinking a destroyer.
