US and Israeli Plan to Dissolve UNIFIL Exposed

TEHRAN (Defapress) - The Israeli channel "i24 News" reported on Monday that the US and Israeli efforts to change the missions of UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon or completely dissolve the international forces.

In explaining this news, the diplomatic correspondent of this Israeli channel, Amichai Stein, stated that Israel and the US have realized that now there is a good opportunity to act.

He added: "The content of the letter that the US sent to the Security Council before starting to consider the outcome of changing UNIFIL missions is that if no change is achieved, this force must be dissolved."

According to Stein, following this American threat, 3 scenarios are being considered, including a complete cancellation of the mission, i.e. the complete dissolution of UNIFIL, reform of the force and a change of the mission to a “fundamental” form, and a one-year extension of the mission in its current form, with the complete dissolution of the force after the end of this period.

He said: “In practice, we are moving towards one of two scenarios: the dissolution of UNIFIL, or a fundamental change in its mission, which would mean granting the authority to use military force against Hezbollah.”
