The meeting came in the wake of recent developments, including the recognition of Somaliland by the Zionist regime, which is seen as an act against Somalia's sovereignty.

The purpose of the meeting was to adopt a unified position by Islamic countries regarding the recent developments in Somalia, in the context of growing political concerns about their impact on the region's security and stability.

According to the OIC secretariat, the meeting focused on supporting Somalia's sovereignty, regional security, and territorial integrity, based on international charters and OIC decisions.

The recognition of Somaliland by the Zionist regime was met with widespread criticism and anger from the international community.

On January 6th, the Foreign Minister of the Zionist regime visited Somaliland and meet with its leader.

Somaliland, since its secession from Somalia in 1991, has not been recognized by any country and operates as a politically, security, and administratively autonomous region, while the central government has been unable to exert its authority over it.
