Syrian Army Opens Fire at Ankara Forces after Turkish Missile Attack on Humanitarian Convoy

TEHRAN (defapress)- The Syrian Army's artillery units shelled Turkish forces' positions after the latter attacked an aid convoy heading towards the town of Afrin in Northwestern Aleppo, field sources reported on Friday.

Syrian Army Opens Fire at Ankara Forces after Turkish Missile Attack on Humanitarian ConvoyThe sources reported that the Turkish army and their affiliated militants attacked a humanitarian convoy that was on its way to Afrin via al-Ziyara passageway North of the town of Nubl.

They added that several trucks were set ablaze in the attacks.

The sources said the Turkish missile units deployed in the town of Azaz fired tens of missiles at the aid convoy, adding that the Turkish fighter jets also pounded the village of Marayman and the small town of Shera in Afrin region.

The sources went on to say that the Syrian Army artillery units launched retaliatory attack and shelled the Turkish army Grade missile launchpad that had targeted the convoy.   

The Turkish army sent a sum of 1,200 elite forces to Northwestern Aleppo on Wednesday to join Operation Olive Branch against the Kurdish fighters in Afrin region amid deployment of pro-Damascus popular forces in the Kurdish-held town of Afrin, well-informed sources said.

The sources said that 1,200 special forces of the Turkish army have been dispatched to Afrin region, adding that the elite forces of Pornowa Brigade left Kalig airport in Izmir on military planes for Northwestern Syria.

The pro-Damascus popular forces have arrived in Afrin regardless of the Turkish Army's heavy attacks.
