Iran to Continue Advisory Mission in Syria: OfficialTEHRAN (Defapress) – “The Zionist regime (of Israel) is trying to dominate Syria after (fall of) the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group, but the Resistance forces and the military advisers of the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue their presence in Syria to counter terrorism,” Amir Abdollahian said in a meeting in Tehran on Saturday with Palestinian Ambassador to Iran Salah al-Zawawi.

“Syrians will not allow the country to once again become a safe haven for Zionist terrorists,” the Iranian official added.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran will continue its firm support for the Resistance, and will not retreat (from its stance on) the Palestine issue and the Zionist regime’s threats that have endangered the security of all regional countries,” he said.

Zawawi, for his part, underlined that the issue of Palestine should become a top priority for the Muslim Ummah (community), adding that US President Donald Trump is an instrument in the hands of international Zionism.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, fighting against the central government.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.

In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.
