Terrorists behind Attack on Police Patrol in Southern Iran Arrested

TEHRAN (defapress)- Police officials in Khuzestan province announced on Tuesday that they have arrested a number of terrorists behind an attack on the Law Enforcement Police officers at Imam Khomeini port in Southern Iran late last month.

Terrorists behind Attack on Police Patrol in Southern Iran ArrestedThe intelligence and security forces could "identify and arrest 9 main culprits and individuals in relation to the incident in less than one week", Commander of Khuzestan province's Law Enforcement Police Brigadier General Heidar Abbaszadeh said.

He added that police authorities also discovered 2 Kalashnikov rifles and the vehicle used to carry out the terrorist attack.

General Abbaszadeh said that the captured individuals have confessed that they had also attacked a number of military and police bases in Khuzestan province earlier this year.

Police officials in Khuzestan province announced on January 27 that a terrorist and separatist group had claimed the responsibility for the attack on the Law Enforcement Police officers at Imam Khomeini port.

"Harkat al-Nazal al-Arabi Le Tahrir al-Ahwaz terrorist and separatist group has claimed responsibility for the armed attack on a Law Enforcement Police vehicle at Imam Khomeini port," Deputy Police Commander of the Southern province of Khuzestan Ali Qassempour told reporters.

On January 26, unknown assailants attacked a patrolling police vehicle in Sarbandar region of Imam Khomeini port with bullet fire, killing two police officers.

Leaders of Harkat al-Nazal al-Arabi Le Tahrir al-Ahwaz terrorist group are stationed in Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands. They have described their goal as overthrowing the Islamic Republic in Iran through armed attacks.

The terrorist group has carried out 13 bomb attacks in Khuzestan province so far.

Iran has always criticized the European states for sheltering and supporting the terrorist groups which act against the country.
