Syrian Military Nearly Ready to Use S-300 System

Speaking to AMN on the condition of anonymity, the source said that the Syrian military’s air defense units are nearly finished with their training on the S-300 system.

Per the source, the Syrian military should be fully ready to use the S-300 system over the next few weeks, as they have nearly completed all of their training exercises with the Russian armed forces.

He would add the S-300 launchers are ready to begin service, but the holdup is the training courses the air defense units are currently going through in Western Syria.

The source’s claims come just 48 hours after the Israeli-based Image Satellite International company released new photos of the erected S-300 launchers in the Masyaf countryside.

The S-300 system was first delivered to Syria by the Russian Federation in early October 2018.

The Russian Federation made the decision to supply Syria with the S-300 system after one of their IL-20 reconnaissance planes was accidentally shot down by a Syrian military S-200 missile.

Moscow accused an Israeli F-16 jet of using their IL-20 reconnaissance plane for cover during the attack.
