TEHRAN (Defapress) - A senior Hamas leader, Osama Hamdan, told Al-Mayadeen, according to the Palestinian Safa news agency that the latest US proposal for a Gaza ceasefire agreement was presented before the country's presidential elections.
He added that the Zionist regime is seeking to first, return the hostages, then decide whether to end the war or continue it.
Hamdan continued that Israel is seeking to achieve what it failed to accomplish on the battlefield in the negotiations, which is impossible.
The Hamas official added: For us, stopping the conflict and implementing the ceasefire is important for the Palestinian people, and the statements that are being made about a 5-day ceasefire and returning to war do not meet the demands of our people.
He referred to the negotiations in Cairo with the Fatah group and said that in a meeting held in Egypt with the Fatah movement, we reached an agreement to form a committee to manage the affairs of the Gaza Strip.
The senior Hamas official stated that it was expected that a second meeting would be held with the Fatah movement to complete the issues raised, but this meeting was delayed due to some developments, including the martyrdom of martyr Yahya Sinwar.
Hamdan emphasized the Hamas movement's position, which is the formation of a Palestinian national unity government to manage the affairs of the Palestinians, and said: Of course, no agreement has been reached to form this government so far.
Regarding the Lebanese front, he also said: Despite the sacrifices of the Lebanese Islamic resistance, which remains, it has caused the occupiers to pay the price for their aggression, and the attacks of these forces have sent Zionist leaders to refuge.
The senior Hamas official concluded by emphasizing: Despite the efforts of some to incite sedition and sectarianism, it is appropriate to support the resistance in Lebanon.
