TEHRAN (Defapress) - Several days after the fall of Bashar al-Assad's government in Syria, and in a situation where armed opposition groups, including HTS, have seized power in the country, worrying news is being heard about the activities of various terrorist groups, especially the ISIS terrorist group, in Syria. Accordingly, news sources in Syria reported about intensifying ISIS activities in multiple cities and parts of Syria in the past week.
Media reports indicate that the scale of ISIS's actions and movements in Syria is increasing every day, which has even caused concern among countries supporting the armed groups that seized power in Syria. These concerns have reached the point where the United States and Turkey have issued a warning about the return of the ISIS terrorist group to Syria and the region, assessing this as a serious threat to stability and security.
Syrian media also claimed in the news and reports that HTS, which currently controls significant parts of Syria, has expressed serious concern about the return of ISIS to various cities and regions in Syria. This is while Ahmed al-Shara, also known as Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, has been present in Syria in the past as an ISIS representative.
The Al-Malouma news agency announced in a report that they have received numerous worrying news reports of the widespread and increasing movements of ISIS elements in various parts of Syria. Some of these reports even indicate that the movements of ISIS terrorist elements in Syria have not been met with any reaction from the US military, and forces of this terrorist group have freely moved throughout Syria and even moved and operated up to 10 kilometers from American bases.
Syrian sources in their reports and analyses expressed surprise and astonishment at the lack of serious reaction by American forces against the elements and forces of the terrorist group "ISIS". They assessed this appeasement and indifference as a result of the existence of coordination between the American army and the terrorist group "ISIS". In addition, as the media reported, American fighter jets do not deliberately target "ISIS" vehicles and convoys.
The US's actions and behavior towards the movements and actions of the ISIS terrorist group in Syria have caused experts and pundits to express their concern once again in recent days about the US's dual behavior in dealing with the most dangerous terrorist group active in Syria. They believe that such behavior and approach on the part of the US in dealing with ISIS will create more chaos and insecurity in Syria.
Of course, up to this point, field reports indicate that at least 100 people have been killed in the actions and activities of the ISIS terrorist group in Syria to date, most of whom were captured by ISIS in the western and eastern regions of Homs. In addition, ISIS forces have been carrying out various operations in different parts of Homs for several days and have attacked several villages in the region, arresting and kidnapping several people.
Meanwhile, media sources in Syria have also announced that ISIS is committing war crimes against the Syrian people by expanding its influence and operations in Syria. These media outlets also mentioned in their reports that ISIS terrorists have been making videos of them during their crimes and are widely publishing them on social media.
On the other side of the field, Reuters reported last Monday that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the country is closely monitoring the movements of ISIS remnants and is seeking to prevent the group from reorganizing and the fragmentation of Syria in the post-Assad era.
On the other hand, after the armed opposition entered Damascus, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan claimed in a speech that his country is in close contact with HTS to ensure that ISIS does not exploit the new situation in Syria.
In conclusion, it should be said that despite the countries involved in the current situation in Syria expressing concern about the return of ISIS, Rami Abdulrahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, has warned that Syria faces the risk of ISIS expanding from the desert.
