TEHRAN (Defapress) - Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has formally notified the United Nations (U.N.) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that Iran will implement special measures to safeguard its people, national interests, and nuclear facilities. The specifics of these measures will be shared with the U.N. and IAEA at a later date.
Araghchi conveyed these remarks in a letter addressed to U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, U.N. Security Council President Evangelos C. Sekeris, and I.A.E.A. Chief Rafael Grossi on Thursday.
Citing a CNN report from May 20, 2025, which quoted U.S. officials alleging that the Israeli regime was preparing an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, Araghchi warned that any Israeli adventurism targeting Iran’s nuclear sites would be met with a decisive response, as has been the case in the past.
Araghchi reaffirmed that Iran’s nuclear program is exclusively peaceful, a position consistently verified by IAEA reports. He also referenced IAEA resolutions underscoring that attacks or threats against nuclear facilities not only jeopardize peaceful nuclear energy development but also pose transnational risks.
Additionally, the Foreign Minister highlighted Israel’s nuclear program as a grave threat to global security, calling on the international community to pressure the regime to dismantle its nuclear arsenal and adhere to disarmament agreements.
