TEHRAN (Defapress) - The Telegraph reported on Tuesday morning that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is likely to back down on the territory seized by Russia.
The Telegraph reported, citing an unnamed Western official, that Zelensky’s stance has softened ahead of the Russian-American summit in Alaska and that he is likely to agree to give up some Ukrainian territories.
The official claimed that while Ukraine appears willing to cede some territory, it will only agree to a peace deal that provides it with credible security guarantees in the form of arms supplies and a path to NATO membership.
The report continued: “Ukraine may agree to end hostilities and cede territory currently occupied by Russia under a plan backed by the Europeans. The softening of the negotiating position comes ahead of a summit between Trump and Putin in Alaska.”
The Telegraph went on to explain that a possible scenario is one in which a ceasefire is established along the current front line and Russia is allowed to exercise de facto control over the territories of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye, Kherson, as well as the Crimean peninsula.
