TEHRAN (Defapress) - The well-known Arab world analyst, Abdel Bari Atwan, wrote in an article in Rai al-Youm: The killing of three Americans, including two soldiers and a translator, and the wounding of three others in the ancient city of Palmyra, Syria, is bad news for US President Donald Trump and his administration, as well as for the head of the interim Syrian government, Ahmed al-Sharaa.

American Plans in the Region Won't Conclude

He said: "The noteworthy point is that the American delegation apparently participated in a secret meeting in the city of Palmyra in the Syrian province of Homs under the guise of fighting terrorism, but the real reason for their movements was to examine the construction of American military bases in the Syrian desert, and the attack on the Americans was a warning message that this plan will not lead anywhere and that American bases have no place in this region; whether they are near Iraqi territory or are built in Syria."

Atwan clarified: "The noteworthy point is that the person who targeted this number of Americans, killing some and wounding others, was only one person, who was also killed. It is unlikely that this attack of this magnitude, which was planned and executed in a very professional manner, was carried out by one person, and the possibilities indicate that a party or group is behind this matter. The important question that arises here is why this operation was carried out at this time."

The analyst stated: The finger of blame is currently pointed at several parties; first, ISIS, which is present in Palmyra and controlled it for more than two years until the former Syrian regime ended its domination. The next accused are the Syrian National Islamic Resistance or the soldiers and security forces that remained loyal to the former regime.

Third, the attack was carried out by one of the allied groups of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham that separated from the Jolani. There have also been leaks in this regard stating that the perpetrator of this attack was close to Jolani and his picture was published at one of the Jolani meetings, but this narrative has not been confirmed by a reliable official or unofficial source.

The analyst wrote: This attack and the volume of casualties of American forces show that the second year in the new Syria will not be like the first year, and further developments are on the way.

Atwan continued by referring to the successive blows inflicted on America and its plans to support Israel's killing and genocide in the region, and wrote: These plans are not expert-made, and Trump's experts and advisors only know how to act as brokers and are only interested in family relations and are not aware of Arab countries and their long history of tens of thousands of years.

He wrote: America, which suffered defeat in Afghanistan, has no place in the Islamic world, and it would not be surprising if we see the forces of the new Syrian army chanting slogans in support of Gaza, and we would not be surprised if the perpetrator of this anti-American operation was a young Syrian.

The analyst concluded by writing: Regardless of which side is involved in it, this operation will create a new stage not only in Syria but also in the entire region, which means that America, Israel, and their mercenaries have no place in the region.
