Europe Should Stand against US Unilateralism

TEHRAN (defapress)- Iranian Parliament Speaker’s Special Aide for International Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian in a meeting with French Ambassador to Tehran Philippe Thiébaud underlined the need for the European states to separate their way from the US unilateral decisions to prevent violation of human rights and endangering peace and security.

Europe Should Stand against US Unilateralism"The European states should stand against the US self-centered and unilateral decisions to show their independence and prevent unilateralism by the violator of human rights, peace and security (the US) in the world," Amir Abdollahian said in the meeting in Tehran on Tuesday.

He also added that Iran expects France not to allow enemies of the age-old ties between the two countries to manage the bilateral relations to their illegitimate interests.

Elsewhere, Amir Abdollahian underlined Iran's successful fight against the coronavirus epidemic despite the US cruel and inhuman sanctions.

Thiébaud, for his part, stressed Iran's important role in establishment of stability and security in the region, and said, "France welcomes development of friendly relations with Iran in different arenas, specially parliamentary ties."

In relevant remarks earlier this month, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called on the European Union (EU) to abide by its obligations with respect to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and said the US’ pullout from the deal is a flagrant violation of international law.

Iran will stick to its commitments if the EU lives up fully to its obligations, Rouhani said in a phone conversation with his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinistö.

The US discard of the JCPOA is in violation of the UN Security Council resolutions and contrary to international law, political rules and all moral values, he noted.

Referring to launching of the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX) by Europe, as well as the Swiss financial channel with Iran (SHTA), Rouhani made it clear that these mechanisms have not yet become practical, urging the EU to activate them.

Sauli Niinistö, for his part, welcomed the launch of INSTEX, and voiced Finland’s readiness to join the financial mechanism, adding that Helsinki supports the payment of the International Monetary Fund loan to Iran.

Calling the JCPOA as an international agreement, he underlined that Finland is making every effort to preserve the deal.
