TEHRAN (Defapress) - Osama Hamdan, a senior member of Hamas, told Al Jazeera that the Zionist regime is continuing its genocide and starvation of the people of the Gaza Strip, with the support of the United States and international silence.

What Is Happening in Gaza Is More Horrific than the Holocaust

Referring to the joint efforts of Washington and Tel Aviv to divert the UN Security Council meeting from the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and focus it on the issue of prisoners, he announced: 180 people have died of hunger in Gaza so far, 93 of whom were children.

The senior Hamas official added: 1,487 Palestinians have been martyred, and more than 10,000 have been injured in the targeting of humanitarian aid seekers.

According to him, 96 percent of Gaza families are now food insecure, and the region is facing a severe shortage of infant formula and medical equipment to combat hunger.

Osama Hamdan added: "More than 22,000 trucks carrying aid have also remained behind closed doors at crossings, and the Zionist regime is deliberately preventing them from entering."

Hamdan emphasized: "These figures should be a serious warning to the members of the Security Council. Today, more than two million Palestinians live in conditions that we are ashamed to even describe."

The Hamas official added: "Gaza has become a death camp, and what is happening in Gaza today is more horrific than what happened in the Holocaust."

Stressing the need to immediately stop the crimes of the Zionist regime and prosecute its perpetrators, he noted: "The crimes of this regime continue not only in Gaza, but also in the West Bank, and the international community must take a stand against it."

Hamdan also referred to the critical situation of prisoners in the Israeli prisons, saying: The number of Palestinian prisoners has reached 10,800, and they are subjected to severe physical and mental torture. So far, 76 Palestinian prisoners have died in prisons due to torture and medical neglect.

According to this Hamas official, there are many documented testimonies of attacks on prisoners and the systematic destruction of their souls and bodies in the Israeli camps, but the relevant human rights institutions have either been suppressed or have remained silent.

He added: While the Israeli regime is preventing the oppressed people of Gaza from receiving medicine and food, it claims to be concerned about its prisoners. This is while Israeli prisoners in the hands of the resistance eat the same food as the people of the besieged Gaza.

Hamdan concluded by calling on the members of the Security Council to pressure the Zionist regime to end these crimes, stressing: "We have always declared our readiness to positively interact with any request for food aid to Israeli prisoners in exchange for humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza."
