TEHRAN (Defapress) - According to Al-Arabiya, Venezuela conducted extensive military maneuvers yesterday after the deployment of US warships near its coasts in the Caribbean Sea.
Previously, Caracas had considered the US action a military threat. The mentioned military maneuvers took place in the northwest and northeast of Venezuela and involved the deployment of military equipment to coastal areas, firing artillery towards the sea, and other military movements along the country's coasts. Russian missiles were also deployed by Venezuelan forces in the region.
Yesterday, NBC News, citing four informed sources, including 2 US officials, reported that the United States is preparing for attacks on Venezuelan soil.
According to the report, potential US attacks against Venezuela would be carried out under the pretext of fighting drug traffickers. The informed sources added that these attacks will likely begin in the coming weeks.
NBC News reported that the aforementioned attacks, which have not yet been approved by Trump, will escalate tensions between his administration and Venezuela. The informed sources added that the US plan is focused on drone strikes against members of drug trafficking gangs.
Previously, Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, announced that popular forces have been deployed across the country to confront any threat from American aggressors.
