Kidnapping

Nigerian police have announced the release of about 130 students and staff who were kidnapped by armed groups from a Catholic school in Niger state in the central part of the country last month.

While the Nigerian government managed to free about 100 students kidnapped from St. Mary’s boarding school in Niger State, dozens of other children and teachers remain in captivity, an incident that, along with simultaneous kidnappings from schools in Kebbi State and churches in Kwara, paints a picture of a series of hostage-takings in the north of the country.
