"All participating countries (at the UN General Assembly meeting in New York) admitted that Tehran plays a unique role in fighting terrorism and establishment of stability in the region and if the Islamic Republic of Iran had not tried, the regional situation would have grown worse than the current conditions," Rouhani said, addressing a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.
He referred to his meetings with different world officials in New York, and said, "In all those meetings a number of points were clear; firstly, all of them admitted that Iran plays a unique role in fighting terrorism and violence and bears the flag of campaign against extremism, violence and terrorism today, which is an important issue."
"The countries were also interested in the rapid settlement of Iran's nuclear issue, more expanded relations (with Tehran) and their investors' more active role in Iran and generally, they wanted the Islamic Republic of Iran to play a higher and more extensive role in regional and international issues," Rouhani said.
In August 2013 and only two months after his election as Iran's new president, Rouhani renewed his call for constructive cooperation and interaction with different world states based on mutual respect.
"Constructive interaction will be made based on mutual respect and on an equal footing," Rouhani said.
He elaborated on the principles of his foreign policy, and said, "In the discourse of moderateness, foreign policy means protecting national security, securing national interests and all-out and targeted development of the country."
In July, President Rouhani renewed Iran's support for the role of political dialogue in resolving regional problems and disputes.
Addressing a cabinet meeting, Rouhani pointed to the regional developments, and said, “Continued stability in the region will favor all the regional countries and the Islamic Republic of Iran will do all it can to remove regional problems based on its humanitarian and religious duties."
He noted that political dialogue played an important role in resolving the regional problems.
