Envoy: Iran Boosting Trade Ties with Tanzania

A senior Iranian diplomat announced the volume of trade between Iran and Tanzania has considerably increased as the African country can facilitate transit of Iran's goods to Eastern Africa.

Envoy: Iran Boosting Trade Ties with Tanzania

"Tanzania, situated in Eastern Africa, has always been regarded as a gate for the export of the Iranian goods to Africa, specially to Eastern and Southern parts of the continent," the Iranian Ambassador to Tanzania Mehdi Aqajafari told FNA on Friday.

The Iranian envoy noted that Iran has increased the volume of its non-oil goods to Tanzania in recent years, and said, "Iran has always has had positive trade balance with Tanzania."

He reiterated that because Tanzania and its Dar es Salaam are located on the rim of the Indian Ocean and near the most important economic zones of western Asia, specially the Persian Gulf the country is suitable for trade with Iran.

Iran has striven hard to maximize relations with the African continent.

Iran is also an observing member of the AU and has shown an active presence in previous AU summit meetings.

The country is considered as one of the AU's strategic partners along with India, Japan, China, several South American states and Turkey, while Tehran is also believed to be prioritizing promotion of its economic and political ties with the African states.
