Iran and Afghanistan have formed five joint commissions to draft a long-term cooperation document between the two sides. The agreement was finalized during Foreign Minister Zarif’s one-day visit to Kabul on May 7 this year. After several rounds of talks with President Ashraf Ghani, both sides agreed to form five commissions in specific time intervals in a bid to implement the principles for the two countries.

The Sunday visit of the Iranian delegation to Kabul is in line with implementing the results of talks on these commissions aimed at reaching an initial agreement.

The delegation is accompanied by legal, political, military, consular and security experts who will discuss relevant issues at each of the side committees of the five joint commissions.

Iran and Afghanistan’s economic transactions reaches an annual amount of over $1.2 billion.
