TEHRAN (Defapress) - The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, in conjunction with the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS), issued a joint statement on Sunday announcing the martyrdom of Mohammad Yassin Khalil Jabr, aged 22, the previous day.

The statement indicated that Jabr, a resident of the Dheisheh refugee camp situated just south of Bethlehem in the West Bank, had been under administrative detention since December 11, 2023, and was incarcerated at the Negev desert prison in the southern Israeli-occupied territories before his passing.

While the statement did not elaborate on the circumstances of his death, it noted that Jabr had sustained a serious abdominal injury a year and a half prior to his arrest.

“Part of his intestines was surgically removed at that time, and he was apprehended while requiring intensive medical treatment,” the statement remarked.

With Jabr's martyrdom, the total number of administrative detainees who have died in Israeli prisons since the onset of the Israeli military campaign against Gaza in October 2023 has reached 6.

The overall count of confirmed deaths among prisoners and detainees since the commencement of the violent offensive has risen to 56.

Neither the administrative detainees, which include women and children, nor their legal representatives are permitted to access the “secret evidence” that Israeli authorities claim justifies their detentions.

According to the Palestine Detainees Studies Center, approximately 60 percent of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli facilities suffer from chronic illnesses, with many having died in custody or following their release due to the severity of their conditions.
