TEHRAN (Defapress) - In an interview with Zionist media, Haaretz, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson clarified that “Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons and only seeks the peaceful use of nuclear energy.”

Iran Seeks Nuclear Energy, Not Nuclear Weapons

In response to another question about the possibility of Iran agreeing to limit its nuclear program, Zakharova said that Russia “does not rule out the possibility” that the Islamic Republic would limit some of its nuclear activities in exchange for the lifting of Western sanctions.

She went on to emphasize that, in accordance with the spirit of the 2015 JCPOA, Russia is ready to work closely with Tehran and other parties involved to reduce tensions and find sustainable, long-term solutions that will lead to an effective agreement.

While France, Germany and the UK recently issued a joint statement claiming that Iran is not complying with its commitments under the JCPOA, Zakharova dismissed their claims.

On the other hand, the head of the Science, Technology and Security Workshop at Tel Aviv University, Isaac Ben-Israel, stressed that the new US sanctions against Iran will not have much effect, as Iran sells most of its oil to China and is not affected by US policies.
