TEHRAN (Defapress) - Abolfazl Zohrehvand, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, in an interview with Defapress correspondent, emphasized that the U.S. challenge with Iran goes beyond the nuclear issue. He said: "The Americans fundamentally oppose Iran’s progress and development. Iran’s strength in various fields, particularly in the Axis of Resistance, has been the main factor limiting U.S. soft power on the international stage."

Americans’ Main Concern is Iran’s Inspirational Influence, Not a Nuclear Bomb

Referring to U.S. efforts to restrict Iran’s capabilities, he added: "The Americans are trying to eliminate Iran’s strategic capabilities in various areas, including peaceful nuclear technology. They want to settle accounts with Iran first, and then turn to other regional and international issues."

Zohrehvand stressed that the West’s concern, especially the U.S., goes beyond the nuclear issue: "Their problem is not Iran obtaining a nuclear bomb. They know Iran is not pursuing a bomb, and even if it had one, its use would not be practical in regional equations. Even if Iran possessed a bomb, its range and impact would not reach the U.S., so it would not be a concern for them. Their real worry is the global discourse and the inspirational influence of the Islamic Republic, which invites nations through Quranic logic, not through nuclear threats to force submission."

He continued: "There is a big difference between invitation and submission, and this is precisely where the Americans’ main concern lies. Even officials like Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy for Middle East affairs, have explicitly stated that the issue starts with the nuclear topic but must extend to other areas, including normative and social matters. Under these conditions, they seek to define a role for Iran in the international system that aligns with their own desires."
