Iran's Police Commander Stresses Necessity for Increased Security Cooperation with Iraq

Commander of Iran's Law Enforcement Police Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari blasted the recent moves by a number of terrorist groups at the common borders with Iraq, and underlined the need for bolstering security cooperation between the two countries.

Iran's Police Commander Stresses Necessity for Increased Security Cooperation with IraqTEHRAN (Defapress)- "Given the presence of certain terrorist groups in some of the bordering points to foment insecurity in these regions, expansion of cooperation between the security forces of both countries is inevitable and we should decrease these crimes through more cooperation," General Ashtari said in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart General Abdullah Ibrahim al-Hosseini in Tehran on Sunday.

He, meantime, said currently security prevails at the joint borders of Iran and Iraq and the terrorists' moves have reduced.

General Ashtari also warned that the Iranian and Iraqi nations have common enemies, including the US and Israel, and stressed that the two states should try to foil the enemies' plots.
He also underscored willingness of Iran's Law Enforcement Police to cooperate with Iraq in training security forces and exchanging experiences.

In a relevant development on Friday night, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force dismantled a terrorist team in Northwestern Iran (near the borders with Iraq), killing at least 10 terrorists.

"Last night (Friday night) an equipped terrorist team, affiliated to the world arrogant powers and the foreign intelligence services, which planned to enter the country through the bordering region of Oshnavieh (in Kurdistan province) to foment insecurity and conduct sabotage acts was entrapped by the brave forces of the IRGC Ground Force's Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada base and at least 10 terrorists were killed and a number of others were wounded in heavy clashes," a statement by Hamzeh base said on Saturday.

It also added that a considerable amount of weapons, ammunition and telecommunication equipment have been seized from the terrorists after the team was disbanded.
