Iran’s Larijani Congratulates Lebanon on Anniversary of 33-Day War VictoryTEHRAN (Defapress)_In a congratulatory message to his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri, Larijani hailed the role of Berri, Secretary General of Hezbollah Resistance Movement Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and the fighters of the resistance movement in achieving the victory.

He added that it demonstrated to the hegemonic powers and the occupying regime of Israel that West Asian nation have reached such maturity that they not only will not remain silent on colonialist plots but will defend their dignity and proud history with all their strength.

The Iranian parliament speaker also referred to the recent developments in the region, especially the defeats of Daesh and other US and Zionist-backed Takfiri terrorist groups and said they proved that the countries of the region, regardless of their religion or ethnicity, consider resistance the most efficient weapon against growing threats posed by the world arrogance.

Elsewhere, Larijani highlighted the growing ties between Iran and Lebanon and expressed Tehran’s readiness for further strengthening the relations in various fields.

The Tel Aviv regime launched two wars on Lebanon in 2000 and 2006. About 1,200 Lebanese, most of them civilians, were killed in the 33-Day War of 2006.

On both occasions, however, Hezbollah fighters defeated the Israeli forces and Tel Aviv was forced to retreat without achieving any of its objectives.

The conflict in 2006, also known as the July War, took place in Lebanon, northern parts of Occupied Palestine and the Golan Heights.

It started in July 2006, and continued until a United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into effect in the morning on August 14 that year, though it formally ended on September 8 when Israel lifted its naval blockade of Lebanon.
