TEHRAN (Defapress) - Media and human rights organizations have called on Josep Borrell, European Union Foreign Minister, and Valdis Dombrovskis, Trade Commissioner, to suspend the partnership agreement with Israel and impose targeted sanctions on those responsible for human rights abuses.
The organizations highlighted the alarming situation and noted that over 100 Palestinian journalists and three Lebanese journalists have been killed in the ongoing conflict, making it the deadliest period for journalism in recent decades.
The groups also pointed to the severe restrictions imposed on foreign journalists, who are being prevented from entering the Gaza Strip, and the arbitrary detention of media workers, with at least 49 cases reported.
The organizations urged immediate action to protect media freedom, safeguard the lives of journalists, and end impunity, as European Union foreign ministers are set to convene on August 29 in Brussels.
Since the start of the Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank on October 7, a devastating toll has been reported: 161 journalists have been killed, 186 injured, and 51 detained, according to the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate."
