TEHRAN (Defapress) - In a statement issued on Thursday, UNRWA reported that the Israeli airstrikes on the UN-operated al-Jaouni school in the Nuseirat refugee camp on Wednesday resulted in "the highest death toll among our staff in a single incident" since the onset of the genocidal conflict in Gaza over 11 months ago.

The statement highlighted that among the deceased were the manager of the UNRWA shelter and several team members assisting displaced individuals.

Furthermore, UNRWA indicated that the al-Jaouni school, which accommodates approximately 12,000 displaced Palestinians, primarily women and children, has been struck five times since the commencement of the Israeli aggression.

The organization emphasized that "No one is safe in Gaza. No one is spared," and insisted that schools and other civilian infrastructures must be safeguarded at all times, as they are not legitimate targets.

UNRWA Chief Philippe Lazzarini remarked that the agency's personnel who lost their lives were engaged in providing support to families taking refuge in the al-Jaouni school.

“Humanitarian staff, premises & operations have been blatantly & unabatedly disregarded since the beginning of the war,” he asserted.

Lazzarini also noted that at least 220 UNRWA employees have been killed during the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza.
