TEHRAN (Defapress) - In a statement issued on Tuesday, Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, condemned the EU and UK's sanctions on various Iranian entities and individuals, including IRISL, as unjust, against international law, and breaching their commitments under the JCPOA.
He mentioned that the EU and UK's sanctions are based on the "unfounded claim" of Iran supplying ballistic missiles to Russia, noting that even Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had admitted that no Iranian ballistic missiles were sent to Russia.
Therefore, he repeated that imposing sanctions on Iran based on this justification is "completely unjustified and without legitimate or legal or logical grounds."
He added that the European parties have a clear international responsibility for violations of international law, as freedom of navigation and maritime trade are crucial principles of international maritime law.
The European Union revealed on Monday that they will be implementing fresh sanctions against Iran due to their accused assistance to Russia in the Ukraine conflict, specifically focusing on ships and harbors believed to be involved in supplying drones and missiles to Russia.
Announcing at the same time, the UK also imposed new sanctions on the nation, blocking the assets of IRISL and Iran Air, alleging they were utilized for transporting ballistic missiles and military supplies to Russia for deployment in Ukraine.
Iran has continuously rejected accusations of supplying drones and missiles to Russia since the start of the conflict in Ukraine.
