TEHRAN (Defapress) - The member countries of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter released a special statement strongly condemning the premeditated and heinous evil and crime committed by the Israeli regime against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The statement describes the coordinated and widespread aerial attack by the Zionist regime on June 13th against various locations in Iran, which resulted in hundreds of casualties, including women, children, scientists, university professors, and high-ranking military commanders, as a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, fundamental principles of international law, the territorial integrity of nations, and fundamental human rights, especially the right to life and health.
Members of the group condemned the deliberate targeting of civilians, residential areas, and Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities, including the Natanz site. They warned that these actions could lead to the release of radioactive materials, posing a serious threat to the lives of civilians and the environment.
The Group of Friends of the UN Charter also referred to the explicit responsibility of the UN Secretary-General in defending the purposes and principles of the Charter, calling for his decisive stance against the deliberate and overt use of force against Iran. In this regard, the statement emphasized the duties of the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, calling for a formal condemnation of Israel's attacks on Iran's safeguarded nuclear facilities.
The statement warned of the dangerous consequences of the international community's inaction, emphasizing that a lack of appropriate response to these crimes undermines the rule of law in the international arena and will embolden the Zionist regime to commit further crimes.
The Group of Friends of the UN Charter also emphasized the inherent right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to legitimate self-defense based on international law and noted that all governments are obligated under international law to refrain from any deliberate assistance or aid to the Zionist regime in committing these heinous crimes against Iran and other nations in the region.
Finally, the group expressed its full solidarity with the nation and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and offered condolences to the victims' families. It called for the accountability of the Zionist regime for all its crimes against Iran, the Palestinian people, and regional peace and security.
It is worth noting that the member countries of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter include 17 countries, among them the Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, China, Algeria, Cuba, Venezuela, Palestine, Nicaragua, Uganda, Belarus, Bolivia, Zimbabwe, and several other nations.
