Yemen revolutionaries hold funeral for slain fighters

The Yemeni revolutionaries, also known as Houthis, gathered in the Hadda district in the capital Sana’a on Thursday in a funeral for a number of fighters killed by secret security forces near the Saudi embassy.

“These youth will join the martyrs of the Quranic demonstration as they have sacrificed their lives for the sake of this nation. This is also a sincere call for the reconciliation and forgiveness and to implement the peace document and national partnership signed by all political sides,” Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Abdul-Rahman Hassan al-Hassani told Press TV.

Sporadic clashes erupted in the capital between Houthis and security forces after Ansarullah fighters took over Sana’a following a four-day battle with army forces loyal to General Ali Mohsen al-Ahmad, the half-brother of former dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh.

A relative of one of the fighters killed said the UN Security Council along with the US are deliberately trying to turn Yemen into another Syria or Iraq by propping up a sectarian discourse.

“We promise to Allah that we will unite the Yemeni people under the banner of the unity between Sunnis and Shias against the UN Security Council, which is responsible for creating the unrest in Yemen, Syria and Iraq with the help of the US,” he said.

Ansarullah activists have been staging demonstrations in the capital for more than a month, demanding the government’s ouster over corruption.

The Houthi movement played a major role in the popular uprising that forced Saleh to step down after more than 33 years in power.
