Iran embassy congratulates holding successful elections in Iraq

TEHRAN (Defapress) The statement, which came a day after national elections held across Iraq, said that the election was held following major victories against terrorism and is indicative of the Iraqi nation's growth and prosperity.

The Iranian embassy expressed hope in the statement that the continuation of this trend would further boost friendship and stability in the country and across the region.

Formation of the parliament and the subsequent formation of the new government is expected to help the progress of the country and give a boost to brotherly ties between Iran and Iraq, the statement said.

Iraq's 4th parliamentary election was held across the country on May 12, the final results of which are expected to be announced within 48 hours after vote casting time came to an end.

Some 44.52% out of the total 24 million people eligible to vote participated in the elections.
