Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said the country had observers during Zimbabwe elections and they observe no violation in the process of elections.

Iran Says Elections in Zimbabwe Were Free, FairTEHRAN (Defapress) –“A delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran visited Zimbabwe upon the invitation by the country to monitor the elections process,” Qassemi said.

Zimbabwe's parliamentary, local council and presidential elections were held on July 30.

The Iranian spokesman said the delegation visited a number of polling stations, monitored vote counting process and observed no violation during the elections and also vote counting process.

“According to the Iranian delegation, the recent elections in Zimbabwe were free, peaceful, fair and at the same time valid.”

Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his main rival, Nelson Chamisa both say they are confident of victory after Monday's election.

Observers say it could be a tight race, but the opposition has said it will protest if their candidate is defeated.
