US, UK not satisfied with Saudi's account of journo's murder
US President Donald Trump referred to his recent telephone conversation with Saudi crown prince and told reporters Saudi Arabia has allocated one month to investigate Jamal Khashoggi's case, but he believes 'that's a long time.'
In the same vein, UK Foreign Secretary described as not 'credible' Saudi Arabia's explanation of the journalist's mysterious death.
In a speech to the House of Commons on Monday, Jeremy Hunt said UK strongly condemns murdering the Saudi investigative journalist and urges Saudi Arabia to cooperate with Turkey in a thorough investigation into the case.
He said UK believes in freedom of speech, press freedom and journalists' protection, adding anyone behind the incident must be held to account.
Hunt went on to say 'the claim that Mr. Khashoggi died in a fight does not amount to a credible explanation,” urging an immediate clarification on what happened on October second and thereafter.
Noting that the incident has taken place on Turkish soil, UK Foreign Secretary considered launching probe into the case Ankara's legitimate right.
It is noteworthy that UK is among the biggest arms dealers to Saudi Arabia, fanning the flames of Saudi war on Yemen which has thus far claimed the lives of 16,000 innocent Yemenis and has razed the country to the ground.
The 59-year-old Saudi journalist entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October second to collect documents for his forthcoming marriage and never came back out.
After 18 days of silence and rejecting claims that Khashoggi was killed, the Saudi government finally bowed down to international pressure on October 20th and claimed the prominent journalist was killed in a fist-fight inside Istanbul consulate.
His body has not been recovered yet and its whereabouts remains to be known.
